Dominic: a Hairdresser who also Takes Care of your Scalp

When he first started in hairdressing, Dominic Quintin had to choose between hair cutting for men and women. “You couldn’t do both back then,” he recalls. Forty years later, not only does the hairdresser handle all hair types, regardless of the age or gender of the person sitting in his chair, but he also treats scalp disorders with advanced technology.

Has the world of hairdressing evolved over the past few decades? The answer is in the question!

From Barber to Salon Owner

How did the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu native discover his passion for hairdressing? “When I was very young, my sister and I used to jump into my mother’s bed on Saturday mornings, and we’d comb her hair. It was kind of a competition between the two of us. I was already hooked!”

In his early career, he works as a barber and hairdresser in his hometown. Furthering his training in women’s hairstyling, he later takes his scissors to Montreal, where he works in a salon as well as being an educator for international companies. Participating in hair shows brings him all over the United States, from Chicago to Los Angeles to New York. Making heads shine in front of the cameras, he’s also hired on some film sets, such as on the show Métamorphose on Canal Vie, where he gives participants a complete makeover.

In 2012, he dives into entrepreneurship and opens his business, Dominic Quintin Coiffure, inside the EQlib beauty centre. There, he works alongside Jenny Métellus, his employee responsible for colouring. “It’s a small, very private, intimate and personalized salon. We welcome one client at a time.”

Psoriasis, Dandruff, Hair Loss: a Specialist to Support You

Besides his work as a stylist, Dominic has expertise in trichology, which is the study of hair and scalp. “While studying, I started to explore avenues that are related to hairdressing to enrich my knowledge. My expertise sets me apart from other salons. I use a camera to examine the scalp of my clients, which allows me to help them solve problems linked to hair disorders such as psoriasis, alopecia, dry dandruff, oily dandruff and androgenetic alopecia – hair loss. We offer about 20 specific treatments for scalp disorders.”

Navigating Trends in 2022

What are today’s customers looking for in a haircut and what are the trends in 2022? While some people are bold, the classics are still very much in vogue, with a new twist. “Mullets, for example, are trendy right now, but it won’t look good on everyone. I often say you can buy the trend, but not the style. The classics are always going to exist. The idea is to take a base, like a square cut, and to deconstruct it, to break the mold and go a little further. I’m not the hairstylist that gives you the haircut of the week or the style of the month. I work with people and for people. When I cut someone’s hair, I move with their personality. And in the end, it’s the client who decides!”

Hair Botox: a Youthful Glow for the Hair

Dominic’s services now include hair botox. This intensive treatment, which lasts from 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the quantity and length of the hair, is a real youth therapy for hair. “It brings the hair back to what we call a virgin state,” explains the hairdresser. “It regenerates and restructures the hair, which becomes like new, giving an incredible look. The effect lasts three months and it works on all hair types.”

This sociable, caring and cheerful entrepreneur intends to keep offering the best service to his clients in EQlib’s warm and friendly environment. From young children to grandparents, each customer encounter is a unique and privileged moment!
